AID Association Identifier: A unique association number given to every client.

AIFS Arbitration Interframe Space: Used by CSMA/CA. Part of the back-off timer mechanism.

AM Amplitude Modulation.

AP Access Point.

APSD Automatic Power Save Delivery: Part of the 802.11e amendment. An enhanced power management method.

ARS Adaptive Rate Selection or Automatic Rate Selection: See DRS. Method used by wireless radios to increase or
decrease speeds as a device moves closer or further from an Access Point.

ASK Amplitude Shift Keying: Method of adding data to a carrier signal; in this case by varying the Amplitude of the signal.

ATIM Announcement Traffic Indication Message: Part of the PS-Poll (Power Save) mechanism - used by the AP to signal
devices to wake up to receive data.

BPSK Binary Phase Shift Keying: Method of adding data to a carrier signal; in this case by varying the phase of the signal.

BSA Basic Service Area: The physical coverage area provided by a single AP.
