Chapter 2 - Resistance

Resistance is the opposition of Current. Put simply, resistance - restricts current flow. The primary device used to oppose current is called a Resistor. There are two main types of resistors - fixed and variable. As the names imply - a fixed resistor has a fixed value of resistance and a variable resistor - has a value of resistance that can change. Resistors are contructed from various materials. They come in many sizes and shapes - depending on the materials used, the power rating and whether it's fixed or variable. Typical schematic symbols and physical images are shown below.
